Spray Tanning rocks! I do it about once a week and you would think I lay out all the time but really I am a total indoor, sunscreen layering junkie ;)

Here are a list of products you should avoid when planning on your next spray tan and products to avoid to make your spray tan last the longest

This is a list of commonly used body care products that can have a detrimental effect on a spray tan. This is not all-inclusive. Not everyone will have a problem with these items. This is only a guide.

 The following products can lighten or make a sunless tan blotchy:

-AHA products

-Anti-acne products  

-Anti-aging products that "renew" "refresh" or otherwise exfoliate skin,

-BHA Products (Beta Hydroxy Acids-salicylic acid)

-Body hair bleach products will bleach the tan, non bleach skin lighteners are fine

-Dove soap, and Dove Shower gel, Curel lotions will fade a tan faster, on some people.

*BIG ONE: Everyone uses Dove I swear so grab something else next time you head to the market if you are an avid spray tannrer*

-Retin-A type products (Retin-A, Renova, Tazorac, Tretinoin)- all will cause faster fading

-Shaving exfoliates skin, so fades tan

-Toners containing Alcohols or Witch Hazel in the top three ingredients listed can lighten tan

-Use of a loofa, scrub, mitt, etc. for daily washing. (Use a soft washcloth or "soft poof for daily use)

I LOVE MY MOM!

I am so blessed to have this gorgeous lady as my Mom. She has been with me through EVERYTHING and I mean LITERALLY EVERYTHING! She pushed me to be a better person but showed me I could still enjoy my life and have fun at the same time. I would not be where and who I am today without her. She has listened to be whine and cry over the small and large things and stayed strong while I was growing up when it was just her and I. All the single mom's out there, I will tell you this YOU CAN DO IT! I promise! My mom proves it :)

BTW we are both spray tanned here ;)

For my Mother's Day I wanted a Shih Sunday! Shih Sunday means we take our dogs out to lunch with us and share some food with them. Do not worry it is all healthy stuff. I got chicken fajitas no shell and cooked in light oil while my hubby got steak fajitas. Next week I want to take them to the San Jose Farmer's Market so we can walk around more and they can have new scents!

Tanning Bed 2x a Day: Senior Year '07

I used to be a tanaholic..literally! I would lay in the tanning bed before school and right before cheer practice so that makes about 2 times a day, 5 days a week. I looked fabulous, if I do say so myself! My issue here is I am Irish, I have pale pink toned skin and I burn VERY easily. So by doing this I encountered some terrible problems when I hit 21. I had some scary moles on my back which had to be removed and according to the dermatologist they were pre cancer. That's right pre-canerous moles. I look back and ask myself why I did this to myself. I was the youngest person this doctor had ever seen have this issue. I cried, I could not believe it. The worst thing was is I knew what I was doing was harmful to my health, I just didn't care. I am paying for it miserably now as my facial skin is more matured due to the fact I burned it every other week and I have some lovely scars on my back. This is how I got into spray tanning by the way :)

I have not entered a tanning bed in over two years and maybe have sun worshipped a bit but nothing dramatic. I rely on spray tanning and from what I see in pictures it makes me have that amazing glow without the burning! Looking tan with just my spray tan on :) That is my handsome very soon to be husband!!

Make changes or find alternatives to what is harmful to your health! Trust me I love being tanned so I found an alternative. I would never to say to you NEVER there is always another way that is a healthier option! Feel free to ask me questions I am all about finding another option for that "unbreakable" unhealthy habit. There is ALWAYS a way to break it!

PROLONG YOUR TAN

Getting a tan is the key to looking healthy, young and vibrant! Getting a tan and keeping it is the hard part. Even with a spray tan you can risk the color by not taking care of your skin properly. Here are some tips on prolonging your tan and keeping your perfect glow for as long as ten days!

-Moisturize day and night

-Pat dry your skin after the shower

-Use baby oil instead of shaving cream

-Avoid exfoliants of any kind

-Avoid chlorine as it reacts to the DHA in the spray tan and causes dry skin

Ever see one of those older ladies whose skin looks like an old leather purse? Stop the damage now because you missy will be there one day if you do not stop laying out with that baby oil and no sun protection!

Protect your skin when laying out and realize that your skin is actually an organ!

Sunblock is vital when heading outside even if it is cold out! SPF actually stands for sun protection factor and people these days are not getting enough sun protection from your standard sun screens. The difference between sunblock and sunscreen is crucial when shopping for new sun protection. Sunblock contains particles that physically block the suns UV rays while sunscreen absorbs the UV rays before they damage the skin. One thing to be aware of is that an SPF lower than 15 will do you no good and any sunscreen with an SPF higher than 30 does not protect you anymore.

How do you know you are applying enough?

The volume of a shot glass is the correct amount when generously applying sunblock to your skin

Make sure your sun protection is sweat proof and water proof and that you are re-applying every 2 hours or so. Most sunscreens take about 30 minutes to completely absorb into the skin so take that time into consideration before exposing yourself to the sun. Sunblocks can be applied right before walking into the sun so take that into consideration!
